In the strictest sense, this was a re-read, since I read this book as a child. However, that was so many moons ago that it doesn't really count, as I'd forgotten all but the most basic details of the story. I remembered it as being one of my favourite childhood reads, so I revisited it with high hopes. I did enjoy it, a lot. I remember being disappointed the first time by the fact that we never discover exactly what NIMH stands for. With an adult perspective, I can see that this is actually quite clever. Since the rats don't get to see the words, only ever the acronym, they don't know, so they can't let the reader in on it.
