Contrary to my normal way of doing things, I saw the movie MATILDA years ago. I loved Mara Wilson in Miracle on 34th St and so couldn't resist seeing her in this too. I loved the film, and this probably put me off reading the book, in case I was disappointed. I needn't have worried. In fact, for once I think seeing the movie first enhanced my reading experience. I could picture the characters who were so brilliantly portrayed therein. Whichever way you come to them, both are well worth checking out.
