Reading Group review. Most of us thoroughly enjoyed the book which is written with a dry humour. It is a vignette of high society life between the two World Wars. The author's perception of personalities and her drawing of the characters is impeccable. She identifies the gulf between the social classes of that time but with a humorous touch to leaven any rancour and her style of writing, which is brief and to the point, is a welcome change from some of the verbose and repetitive novels of recent times.
