Melksham Library Book Group, October 2011 Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders, they begin to unravel a dark family history. The plot is complicated, intriguing, far-fetched and overdone in places but for most members, this was a compulsive read. Some of the scenes were quite hard to read, especially the sexual torture, all of which were very graphic. However, the descriptions of Sweden and Swedish life were enjoyable. Overall a gripping read. Score: 8/10
