Haunted by the freak accident that killed their father when they were children, Jim and Bob Burgess escaped from their hometown for New York City as soon as they possibly could. Jim, a sleek, successful corporate lawyer, has belittled his bighearted brother their whole lives, and Bob, a legal aid attorney who idolises Jim, has always taken it in his stride. But their long-standing dynamic is upended when their sister, Susan - the sibling who stayed behind - urgently calls them home.

I really wanted to,love this book, I really did, I think ES writes well but somehow this disfunctional family didn't gel well with me. I didn't like Jim, I was almost pleased when things took a bad turn for him. Susan, a miserable cold fish but more likeable by the end, she seemed to thaw a bit. Bob was the most likeable but was suffering from guilt his whole life over a tragic accident resulting in the death of his father. When Susan's son gets himself into some trouble both brothers turn to their childhood home to help. I suppose by the end they all did come together but ultimately did I care enough, not really.
