A debut novel from a Dutch author, this is the story of a disturbed relationship between a mother and a son, set on a remote island near Scotland. You Have Me to Love is about a boy named Mikael, who lives with his parents on an island somewhere between Scotland and Norway. One day, Mikael's father Sven saves him from drowning, but Sven himself is thrown against the rocks by a wave and disappears under water. Mikael is in shock and blocks the memory of what took place. When he returns home, he is unable to tell his mother what happened. When Mikael's mother realises that her husband has drowned, she blames Mikael for the death of his father. She forces Mikael to do the unthinkable: to replace his father in every way.
