I loved the Pulitzer Prize winning "Less" and was looking forward to reading this next instalment in the life of the hapless hero. Is it as good? Many critics have said that it is; but I'm afraid it didn't do it for me. Greer is a talented writer no doubt, and there are some very funny moments to enjoy; but these are too few and far between, and there is a cloying sentimentality that I found tiresome at times. Maybe what's missing this time is the lack of any real sense of hazard: things go wrong for our hero, but never that wrong. Please don't let this review put you off if you enjoyed "Less": judge for yourself. If you haven't read "Less", that would be a better place to start with this author. It's brilliant.
