This is a “Who Dunnit” novel, but not in the expected style. A dismembered body is pulled from the water. Who was it? Who did it? Will there be more of the same? Will the end of the novel reveal all? There is the inevitable human triangle in this novel - Lucy, Lily and Teiji. Set in Japan, Lucy and Lily are both Yorkshire women, seeking to escape aspects of their past. Teiji is the local love interest. The spectre of a fourth character, the former girlfriend of Teiji - hovers questioningly over events as they unfold. Susanna Jones’ novel divided opinion within our book club – one member absolutely hated it, whilst others found it psychologically interesting and engaging. The main character, Lucy, is portrayed in both the first and second person – an indication of a psychotic /schizophrenic personality, speculated one reader.
